In the afternoon of Dec. 23, the commendation ceremony of Youthful Style, Role Model Power for international students in 2021 was held in B102 of Library of Changshan Campus. Vice President Wang Jiayou and General Manager Huang Jian of Huatong Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. attended the ceremony, and the heads of relevant departments including Student Affairs Office, Academic Affairs Office, Research and Development Department, Foreign Cooperation Office, Safety and Security Office, Logistics Management Office and Overseas Education College, and international students attended the commendation ceremony, and more than 300 overseas students watched the ceremony through online live broadcast.

The recognition ceremony started with a short bilingual video made by the international students themselves, which conveyed the strong feelings of the international students to the university, teachers and students, and won the warm response from the audience.

Wang Jiayou firstly congratulated the award-winning students and greeted the teachers who are engaged in education and teaching of international students. He pointed out that although the university has made some achievements in education for international students, it also faces some problems and needs to further improve the quality of international student cultivation, improve the management and service level, build a comprehensive and three-dimensional education system for international students, and promote the education for international students to a new level. He encouraged the students to make efforts to adapt to the study environment on line, make full use of various study resources of the university, keep their learning pace, solidify their professional foundation, improve their Chinese language skills and be the messengers of Chinese and foreign humanistic exchanges. Finally, he encouraged all the teachers and students to concentrate on the new year, seize the opportunities and meet the challenges, and write a new chapter in the development of international education in the school together. As one of the first off-campus practice bases for international students, the company has employed four international students graduated from the university. We hope that more outstanding international students will be employed in China in the future.

Mike, a PhD student of special economic animal breeding in 2019, spoke as a representative of the 2021 Provincial Government Outstanding Student Scholarship, who insisted on scientific research during the epidemic and has published several SCI papers.

The conference culminated in the congratulatory video sent by the representatives of alumni outside of China: Li Wenfang (Thailand), a graduate of the 21st Master of Materials, Piripon (Sri Lanka), a graduate of the 21st Master of Control, Gao Hua (Kazakhstan), a graduate of the 18th Master of English Linguistics, Hirini (Indonesia), a graduate of the 21st Master of English Linguistics, and Davis (Ghana), a graduate of the 21st Doctor of Special Effects. In the video, they reviewed their study experience in JNU and expressed their gratitude and longing for the university and teachers. Ma Lin (Bangladesh), a senior undergraduate majoring in civil engineering, is currently working as a project manager in the Bangladesh branch of China Railway. In the video, he especially mentioned that his cross-cultural and Chinese language skills accumulated during his three years of study in China had enabled him to finally obtain this valuable job opportunity. The solid professional education of JNTU has helped him accumulate rich engineering theory and practical experience, so that he can deal with all kinds of problems in practical work with ease.

Finally, Dean Cui Jie of the College of Overseas Education read out the commendation decision, and the attending guests presented awards to the winning representatives. The event ended with the beautiful melody of You Rise Me Up sung by all the participants.

The award ceremony of Youthful Style and Role Model Power aims to set up role models among international students through the achievements of award winners and alumni, interviews and video shows, enhance the sense of honor of international students, educate and inspire international students to study hard, unite and advance, and cultivate high-quality international students who know, love and appreciate China. The exhibition will be held at the same time.
